FALL FASHION: The Importance of Scarves

Scarves are one of the hottest trends and also one of my FAVORITE accessories!

What is so wonderful about their more popular fashion presence is that now there are sooooooooo many different styles and prints to choose from.  You can take any simple outfit to the next level, and update any outfit to fit the latest trends just by adding the right scarf.  Scarfs tend to look best with basic outfits such as a great fitted T or sweater and a pair of blue jeans.

Rhianna is a fashion icon, that there is no doubt.  Here she is sporting one of my favorite scarf styles...

Shaped as a perfect square, and in a variety of beautiful prints, this is a hot look!

DIRECTIONS:  You want to fold the scarf in half to create a triangle, place the thickest point on the triangle in front of your neck and wrap the corners around to the front (crossing in the back).  FABULOUS!

Here is everyone's favorite Hollywood bad girl: Lindsey Lohan.  She loves scarves!  This is one of the more simple ways to wear one.  It really adds a nice touch to any single-color ensemble.  There are soooooo many different variations to this type of scarf, and many different lengths to play with.  Some have fringe, some don't.  Also, some feature dual patterns, so their is a different style on either side of the scarf.

DIRECTIONS:  You want to take the scarf and place it around the back of you neck.  It looks best to leave one side *slightly* longer than the other, so that once you tie it the sides are close to even.  Then, wrap the longer side around the shorter one in a loose knot.  VOILA!

Couldn't find a celeb photo for this one, but....here is a *newer* trend in scarves - The Ruffle.  As you can see, this can also be worn in a variety of interesting ways.  This style tends to come in much more simple colors, as the ruffle detailing is reallly the focus, and not the pattern (would be too busy).  I think this looks spectacular with the leopard print top, don't you?

DIRECTIONS:  There really are no rules for this one, but a great way to wear this style is to do a loose wrapping technique.  Simply drape one side of the scarf over your shoulder and place it at the desired length for the longest end.  Then, loosely wrap it one time around your neck, letting the wrapped part fall just around the cleavage area.  Drape the remaining length of scarf over the opposite shoulder and you're done!  You may need to play with the lengths a little to get the right look, but this style is very fun and flirty!

Fall Fashion: Must-Haves: BOOTS!

Boots have always been an important piece of fall/winter fashions, but now there are even more styles/options/varities of boots for every type of weather or occasion.  The selection can be overwhelming, and its oh so important to find the right comfortable fit.  Here is a break down of some of my favorites in different boot categories:

RAIN BOOTS

These little cuties are by Kamik.

And they come in TONS of different prints.  They are extremely afforable, ranging from $40-$60 a pair.  They have great traction, which is great for me because I am a clumsy fool.  They are lined with polartech so they keep your feet warm.  They are extremely comfortable, and very well-made.  These are great looking with pants or a skirt. They run on the narrow side, particularly through the calf, but most boots are too wide for me so these are just right. They look great with a trench or a long down coat when the weather gets cooler but it's wet out.
SLOUCHY BOOTS

These are Kenneth Cole Reaction Bard Tender, $158

These are incredible boots and go way beyond my expectations. They tend to run on the larger side, so you may want to step down a 1/2 size or so if you would like them to be tighter around the calf.  They fit perfectly when I wear a regular pair of cotton socks. I ordered the slate color and it goes with everything. They are very stylish and comfortable.  You can wear them all day, walking, running, whatever, and you're feet will feel as fabulous as they did when you first slipped them on.  They are a bit pricier, but you can find good deals on Amazon.com (about $100) and other sites if you dig.  They are 100% worth the price for the style, comfort, and quality they deliver.

ANKLE BOOTS - Western

Yeeeee-Hawwww.  Western styles are back on the rise!  They are now popping up in ankle boot styles, which are, to say the least, completely adorable.

These are the Frye Carson Shortie.
They're comfortable, the colors are fabulous and they fit great. The leather is soft and dreamy. They look marvelous with jeans and skirts. You will never get so many compliments on a pair of shoes or boots, they're worth every penny!

 SNOW BOOTS

When it comes to snowy footwear, Ugg has continued to absolutely dominate the women's footwear market.  Their classic styling, plethora of colors and height, and high quality sheep skin comfort have made them an industry leader.  They have much more to offer than just the typical styles you often see on the street.  Here is a pair that has some adorable button detailing.  This style is called the Bailey Button Triplet.  Again, these are a more pricey boot, but they are 100% worth it, for the quality and comfort.

Superior Hawtness? Thong VS. Booty Short

THONG - The thong is a garment generally worn as either underwear or as a swimsuit by both women and men in many industrialized societies around the world. It may also be worn for traditional ceremonies or competitions such as sumo wrestling. (Wikipedia)
 VS.
BOY SHORTS - also known as boy short panties, boys' cut, booty shorts, shorties, tap panties or boyleg briefs are a sort of lingerie that goes all the way down the hips.  They are a relatively new, but increasingly popular style of lingerie among women and are named for their similarity in looks to men's knit boxer shorts, which themselves are a variation on traditional boxer shorts. Unlike men's briefs, however, this style is usually lower cut, and is designed to fit and flatter a woman's figure. (Wikipedia)

A debate as old as time...Ok, maybe not, but in the past few years I have been rather ecstatic to have an alternative to the thong.  I probably started wearing them in middle school, around the time where changing for gym in the locker rooms became part of life.  No one wanted to be the girl caught with the granny panties Hanes her way crap.  Unfortunately, the alternative was to wear dental floss up your butt.

BOY SHORTS PRO's:

Booty shorts, look fantastic on just about anyone (in my opinion).  Full bottom girls can absolutely rock the shit out of this style, and if you don't have enough junk-in-tha-trunk to pull off a thong gracefully it can help create some curves by shedding a little underbutt cleavage...veryy nice!

They are very comfortable.  I prefer to sleep in this style.  They don't constrict my legs, and I don't have to continually 'adjust' them while I peacefully dream...ZZzzZzZzz

They have that innocent/adorable/sexy look to them.  Where a thong is more in your face about being DTF, the boy short leaves more to the imagination, and has a younger appeal to them.  You can even wear them out on halloween if you want and dance around without offending anyone. (mostly anyone...)

BOY SHORT CONS:

Underwear lines.  Leggings and tights are all the rage right now, and its already hard to not look 'lumpy'.  Boy shorts can sometimes be too much bulk underneath tight clothing, and you risk looking like a tightly packaged sausage.

Unadjustable wedgies.  If you do encounter a boy short wedgie, it is usually a damn good one.  You practically have to dig both hands down into your pants to dig them out.  Not hot.

Too much converage.  If you are trying to seduce that special someone, this might not be the choice for you.  While they can be sexy, if this is a first time seduction, I would rock something a little more scandalous (less is more)

THONG PROS:

No underwear lines.  When rocking leggings, spandex, jeggings, tights, etc. this is the way to go!  You can aviod any unpleasant bulge, and keep that booty smooooooth.

Sexy Mama.  The thong is the queen of all sexy underwear styles, and there are soooooo many different variations of them.  My favorite is the Hanky Panky brand.  They are just straight stretchy lace, and they are sooooo comfortable for a thong.  A little thong peakage out of the jeans is like a bullseye for men.  If you're looking to rowdy up your man, the thong is the best way to go.

Soooooo many different options,  G-string, Regular thong, V-string, you name it.  There is a much bigger selection when it comes to this style.  So, if you're like me and like to match your bra to your undies, this may be an easier match to find.

THONG CONS:

THEYRE FUCKING UNCOMFORTABLE.  Some are better than others....Hanky Panky = win, and G-strings = itchy crack.

Not a style that looks great on everyone.  Its really throwing the ass in the face like WHAM! here i am!  And unfortunately, not all of us have been blessed with a perfect brazilian bubble butt.  If you have a flatter ass, the thong can actually draw more attention to its lack of shape.

Not to be gross but...."Some gynecologists report that thongs can cause health problems in regular female wearers, including urinary tract and vaginal infections.  Simply put, thongs irritate the vagina and are not allowing it enough air or space. Thongs can also cause small lacerations which can invite infections. Worse, the small string on a thong allows the anus and vagina to be connected with each other. The thong as a link will carry bacteria from the rectum straight to the vagina. Bacteria such as group B Streptococcal disease and E.coli can be passed into both the anus and vagina." (Wikipedia)

Yeah............I'm gonna stick to booty shorts haha :)  But, what do you think???

Most of us college kids and twenty-somethings do not have $$$$ to drop on a single pair of over-priced, yet super-sweet denim and other nonsense.  I know I personally find myself frustrated, shuffling through the florescent lighting and dingy atmosphere of TJMaxx and other overstock stores, only to come out with a damaged, wrong-sized Rampage top just to feel like I didn't just waste my life
